* It is involved in nitrogen metabolism as part of nitrate reductase and nitrogenase, responsible, respectively, for the reduction of nitrates and their subsequent conversion into amino acids and for the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen.
* Its absence or deficiency decreases chlorophyll content and increases respiratory activity.
